Hitting Tips

If you have 20 minutes to spare check out this video. I found it to be pretty decent all around.

Great video. Just wondering.. I always thought thought that thh bottom hand was a guide and that the top hand did most of the snap. Jason said the exact opposite 5:21 of the video...

Thoughts???

I am no top tier hitter in any sense but I would say the top hand is always mostly a guide (as Branch said) and any sort of twisting/snap motion would have to come from your bottom hand primarily and then with your top hand sort of guiding/assisting that motion. That's how it is for me anyway.

I agree. I have always heard that the top hand is your snap like hammer and bottom hand is the guide

I didn't see anything mentioned about snapping with your top hand around that mark but I'm sure there's videos out there that say it. You can get tips all day it's just what's applies to you and your swing. Also Jason Branch is one of the top hitters in the country and swings a bit like me so I'll take what he has to say at this point in time.

Ryan Harvey/Bob Wol**** say that its the top hand... 8:42 of the video. They say the bottom hand begins the swing and the TOP hand snaps it..

LOL See there you go.

What I like about the Branch video as well is that he gives insight into base hitting and cutting the ball. Hitting the ball 50' further (like the other video is titled) is great and all but if you're playing with limited home runs base hits, approach at the plate and opposite field hitting becomes a big part of the game.

It also comes down to how you hold your bat. For the people that use the full overlap grip it's a mute point. Their bottom hand is everything, guide and snap. But people like me that use a pinky drop on the bottom and Pinky drop on the top, you use the top hand as a snap in the bottom hand as a guide. Think of it as a lever. As I get to The Hitting Zone I'm pulling back with my bottom hand and pushing forward with my top hand to get a little extra snap. It's not a motion that you do purposely but in the proper swing mechanic it happens when you have a good swing motion. You can force it to a point but then you also start topping the ball more because you're gripping a little bit too hard and it pulls the bat head up more. IMHO
