Don't think i've seen many of these but I would assume cause the mat covers more then the plate the same idea applies
Ok not anything else.... Any natural obstruction? Non-person? Take your pick of definition. . But ya.... A batted ball is not deemed fair or foul till it passes 1st/3rd base or comes to rest.... The determination is made based on where the ball is at that time.... So even if it hits the plate and ends up fair it seems logical that it should be fair. But meh. Not my circus. Not my monkeys.

And to add to this a ball that comes to rest on the strike mat is considered a fair ball regardless of what portion of the plate it is on...

The only difference i have seen are the odd league that still using the rubber mat that goes around the original plate. Some of those leagues still consider the mat part foul however no tournament play that is affiliated with one of the big 3 would have this as a rule.
