Whatís the call?

Hey,

We donít really go by SPN or SPO specifically, but we donít go by MLB.

Hereís a question.

Bases loaded, no one out and batting team hits a ball in foul territory, a hard play for LF - and his momentum carries him out of play after he catches the ball in play. Thereís no fence, but thereís a grass line for out of play for that diamond.

Thanks!

Hitter is out. If runners are on base they advance each one base.

Batter is out. Runners advance 2 bases from the time the ball was taken out of play.

It’s in the link below:

a) When in possession of the ball, a fielderís momentum causes him to touch, or to go completely into the ďout of play areaĒ, the ball will be declared dead and all baserunners will be awarded one base from the last base legally touched at the time of the catch.

It's two bases if the ball is intentionally taken out of play, otherwise one base.

If momentum causes you to go out of bounds, it's 1 base and if you intentionally run out of bounds (not sure why you would), it's 2 bases.

Thanks a lot guys - you are awesome.

It is really hard to tell if someone does this on purpose and an umpire probably won't call it unless it is OBVIOUS. With that being said it happened to us in provies a few years back playing in virgil with the wind blowing in crazy, pretty sure the final was 6-5 so runs were at a premium. Runner on second 1 out one of our guys hit a monster fly ball that would of ended up on the arena but with the wind held it up big time and pushed it towards the right foul line almost to the parking lot. With the wind the OF was playing shallow so had to run back and towards the line (i will give him credit for thinking this on the fly) but he caught it right on the foul line and proceeded to run 6-7 strides out of play with no attempt to slow down to stay in play. as i said before it would have to be obvious which most of us thought it was but the umpire only awarded our player third base.
