Patience at the Plate...
Okay heres the deal. I've played slo-pitch for 6 years now... and have had the worst patience with pitch selection. I used to see a pitch come in and literally think 'thats close enough" and swing...lol However this year, I have suddenly developed patience and don't swing at a whole lot of bad pitches anymore (there are still a few that I do swing at...stupid habits) but all in all my pitch selection has gotten 100 times better. My question is...why? lol has this happened to anyone else? Is it an age or experience thing? I dont feel like I have changed anything with my game at all...just wondering if anyone else has noticed they suddenly have better pitch selection and have no clue how? lol

I can say that this year I probably have the highest pitch count on my teams .. all of them .. patience I think comes with experience. Don't get me wrong a pitcher throws me a beachball on the first pitch I hammer it.
However I find that waiting it out pays off huge, now with that said anyone on my teams will also tell you that I have waited too long and bit the bullet watching 2 this year in a 3rd strike on an edge and bought the team beer for the night .. Patience is cool but the beer is colder .. Not my resume booster to admit I watched 2 at bats go full count and struck out watching but I am human and made it up in RBIS.
.. to the other point back in my younger years (cough) I used to have my favorite pitch on my face and went after some real crap .. so ya it happens with experience.

Pitch selection is huge. I find whenever im going through a slump, its due to swinging at bad pitches. It throws the rest of your mechanics off because you have to change your swing to hit a ball you have no business hitting.
I also found that going up to the plate with a plan on where i want to hit the ball, forces me to be patient and wait for the right pitch.
If there's a big gap in RF, you cant hit it with an inside pitch and vice versa.
And yes i can admit i struck out looking once this year, which is embarassing, but i'd rather do that once, than get into a bad habit and end up having several bad games.

I can say with 10000% accuracy that I walk more then ANYONE in this fine game of slo pitch. I dont swing until I have too...if I swing on 0-0, I am either high or drunk.
All I can say is it makes a world of difference as a hitter when you dont hit everything at BP, that is where you can start the bad habits that carry into a game. I realize that this is supposed to be a hitters game, and get the bat off my shoulder but when I am on base due to a walk, at least it wasnt a flyout or ground out. Being patient as a hitter is something that I think most slo pitch players need to learn and if they do, will produce solid results for the team.
This is after all one of the most important sports to win and lose as a team and not to play for that individual average.
PS. Hope my lads read this, they are so ****ING impatient sometimes! LOL.

could be close between us for walking lol. don't believe in swinging at everything the pitcher throws, lol plus i pitch so patience is a virtue.

Ive hit the first pitch like 5 times in 3 years,
I find that taking the first strike is pivitol. yes the pitchers have a sight edge if u go down one, -imo- first strike allows you to dial in more, the picher 9 times outta ten will most likely _____ around on his next pitch to goat ya favorite count is a 2-1
for 1-1 just be happy to get pitches -dam -it could be your only pitch lol
